About Us
120 Taphouse & Bistro may be the newest business here, but it’s heritage is not. The 100+ year old building and property once housed a farm supply store, a Lennox Dealer, the Michigan Secretary of State and for decades a hamburger joint that was in a train car. Dubbed Hotel De Hamburger it was famous for “Sage Burgers” (The owners last name). In the late 80’s the next generation of Sage’s added a Chris-Craft boat for a bar and changed to an upscale restaurant named The Harbor. Most famously, I’ll argue in 1995 it became the home of Bistro 120. Bistro 120 was a beloved staple in the Paw Paw community for 20 years, but all great things must come to an end and in 2015 the owners decided to retire. When crafting the idea for the next incantation of this historic property we looked towards the past for ideas of what the future of 120 East Michigan Ave should look like. Bistro 120 showed the Paw Paw community what eating fresh, from scratch and local was like, way before it was the fad it is today. Hotel de Hamburger was many families weekly treat; it was the place people met, gathered and even on a couple occasions found their spouse! Our goal is to be stewards of these great Paw Paw traditions. We’ll continue making all our own dishes from scratch and with as much locally sourced food as we can. We’ll also be the meeting place for the next generation and never forget to always take pride in what we serve.
